Almost every year for the past five years, I’ve put up a recap of of some sort. It’s usually in list format. So much happened this year; I have a feeling this won’t be everything noteworthy that has happened:
2011. This was a good year.
January 1: Traveled time & spent New Year’s Day in a few places: took off from Ninoy Aquino International Airport at midnight; arrived at Incheon International Airport around 5:30am, arrived at LAX around 9:00am — and managed to completely steer clear of jet lag
January 5: BUCA WITH JOSH. Most memorable restaurant experience ever.
February: Unboxed some new Adams keyboards with THD :’)
February 13: got flowers for valentine’s day!
February: joined the kids for Cuesta!
March: Lost my aunt, Heidi
April: Paid income tax for the first time ever
May 18: Got my wisdom teeth out. I lucked out like crazy; I only spent my first day (and not even a full 24 hours) on the strong stuff. I “graduated” to regular food pretty quickly and was even able to help my marching friends at the Armed Forces Day parade a few days after the surgery.
June 4: THS class of 2011’s prom. It was way better than my prom, I have to say.
Spring: Made Dean’s List for the semester. I hope I can do that again before I transfer.
June 15: A lot of my friends graduated. It was quite a change for me, too.
Summer: went to summer school; met David! and other cool people.
July 11: David and I went to seven 7-Elevens and got free Slurpees at each one. Most intense sugar rush ever. And then I went to work.
July 21: Saw Naoko Takada live in Marina del Rey
July 22: Was given eight gigabytes of new music (as in new to me) to listen to- I’ve barely scratched the surface :0
August 1: turned 19, a solid age
August: Watched DCI Quarterfinals at AMC Del Amo 18 :) It was so nice that it was broadcasted in the two closest theatres to where I live.
September: Sean left for Cal Poly :( but we’re going strong. :)
September: Borders went out of business; the one everyone knows is a 1min walk away from my work; so I went in every week to check deals and read the creative sale signs they had :p
Fall: Started in El Camino’s Applied Music program; met LOTS of people and performed a bunch. Ever since I made it in, it has been such a huge contrast between this year and the year before- where I wasn’t performing or practicing much at all.
Fall: tried out for Pulse, made it into their open line. My first independent group. It has been such a great experience so far. I have learned so much and gotten sooo much stronger as a mallet player in the past three months. I’ve also met a lot of great and talented people, and I’m very excited to start performing with them this season.
Fall: Got a Dr. Beat :)))
October 21: Took the train for the first time and visited Sean in San Luis Obispo- really good weekend.
Fall: Participated in a clinical study; easy money
November 20: Single most stressful day I can remember. Rain and dead other train made my train come in two hours late. I had my first performance with ECC’s concert band and made it literally 5 minutes before we were supposed to go onstage
November:
December 15: finished my 4th term of college! I’m almost done with my GEs.
December 24: Met the most random anon on Omegle who lives in the same apartment complex as one of my closest friends!
December 30: Reunited with my junior high friends for the first time since we graduated five and a half years ago.
Discoveries I can remember off the top of my head:
Antique fair/stores
Tuna donuts
Karaoke bars
Drive-through car washes
jelly donuts
Mass Effect series
indoor rock climbing
among many other things!
Museums/memorable places I went to this year:
Getty Center (2)
Griffith Observatory
California Science Center
Santa Monica Place/Third Street Promenade
LACMA
San Luis Obispo, CA
Museum of Jurassic Technology/Venice Beach
etc:
got my first smartphone :)
continued to grow out my hair- it got pretty long this year!
had the Maple Bacon Sundae at Denny’s three times
got better at driving, especially on the freeway
changed my mind about where I want to go to school
finally learned to appreciate eggs! such a great food, with many uses
Things I’m looking forward to next year:
performing with Pulse Open, performing in WGI for the first time, and going to Dayton, OH for finals :D
studying music history and theory!
taking the train again
turning 20
…I don’t even know what else! I’ll find things :)
yyyyeah!
I hope you guys had a good 2011, too, and that you have a happy 2012!
